60 year old Diva Red Hat Party

by Kim
(Oklahoma City)

Question...Mom mother (73 years old) is a Red Hatter and is having a Diva Red Hat party for her Red Hatters. I was wanting some home decorating ideas along with any party information that you could share with me.

Answer...
The Diva Red Hatter Party is all about fun and colorful decor. Two major things you need to start with in decorating for any event is, theme and color scheme. You already have that, so you are off to a great start.

Diva parties are over the top, glitz and glamour. I would start with a neutral tablecloth like white or cream. Place a tall (about 2 ft.) hat holder in the middle of your table. Place a very fancy red hat on the holder. Sometimes you can find gorgeous vintage hat holders at flea markets, or thrift stores. For some whimsy, spray paint large candelabras glossy purple and place red taper candles in them. Place them on each side of your hat stand.

Run purple feather boas down the middle of the table and scatter costume jewelry here and there. If you do a place setting for each lady, you can start out with a red placemat, then add purple plates. Put red napkins in a diamond ring napkin holder and set on top of the plate.

For place cards, you can use tiny red hats and cut a small slit in the top to hold the card. You can find small straw hats at hobby stores and just spray paint them. Embellish them to make them suitable for the Diva Red Hat Party.

You can also decorate the chandelier over the main table with pearls, feather boas, and hanging crystals. If you don't have a chandelier, you can do this. Find an old chandelier and strip it of all it's wires. Spray paint a glossy purple and add red candles where the lights used to go. Embellish with faux pearl garlands, crystals, and small red hat ornaments. You could also spray paint it a glossy white and add purple beads to it.

Make silky slipcovers for the chairs or use red pillowcases. Just slip over the backs of the chairs. Take a long piece of purple tulle and tie it around the back of the chair into a large bow in the back. Hot glue feathers, roses, and pearls onto the bow.

Use feather boas, fake diamonds, red hats, fake pearl garlands, flower garlands, ect. all over the party area for extra Diva Drama! Don't be afraid to go over the top as the Diva Red Hat Party is all about over the top.

I hope your party is a huge success. Be sure and come back and share your party with us.
