little choo choo train and gifts

Does your baby simply adore trains? Then this is the party to do. You'll find all the ideas you need for a fabulous time for baby and you. You can also use these ideas for a Thomas the Train party.

Go full steam ahead with these ideas for a Choo-Choo Train party.

Invitations

Handwrite or print on your computer...Train Schedule. Come join(your baby's name)for the ride of his life!

Departure time:(time of party)Arrival time:(time party ends)Station location:(your house address). Make it look official by putting stickers on it and mailing it in manila envelope.

Choo-Choo Train Party Costumes

Have baby wear overalls, conductor hat, and a red bandanna. Provide hats and bandannas for all the baby guests.

They won't keep them on, but it's cute for pictures. Give all the adults wooden train whistles.

For some extra fun, make the parents dress the part as well. Give prizes to the best dressed.

Entrance Decorations

Get a picture of a train from a coloring book or the computer. Glue or tape it on a stiff poster board.

Write on it...All aboard for some fun! Glue a paint stick on the back and place where everyone can see it when they first arrive.

Put balloons on the mailbox. More on that below.

Draw train tracks on the sidewalk with chalk.

If you're really creative you can create a tunnel with balloons lining the sidewalk.

Choo-Choo Train Decorations

Take your color cues from whatever toy trains that you will be using. I'd use blue and red for a baby. Black and gray are so boring.

Put a white tablecloth on the table. Plastic or cloth. Your choice. Use your white plates or buy some at your local party store or online.

The best way to do table decor is to stagger your things in height. Put a box in the middle.

Cover it with a white cloth. Put a big train on top of that. Work around that with smaller trains on the table.

A good decorator's tip is to use odd numbers of items in a grouping. It's more pleasing to the eye.

You could also have a train running on the table.

You can also start with a Thomas and Friends Centerpiece and add items around it.

Balloons are a party must. Group them in 3's or 5's and tie them in random places. You can also just have them floating on the ceiling with their pretty ribbons cascading down.

The chandelier is a great place to hang objects from. In this case you could hang little trains. You can use fishing wire or ribbon.

Have a small table for the little ones. I wouldn't put any decorations on it. They'll just rip it off. Aren't they so cute!

Place a cute little book on the grown up table for everyone to write in. Ask family and friends to write sweet notes for your baby to read when they get older.

Choo-Choo Train Games

Keeping it simple is a smart idea for baby party games. We don't want them to become frustrated.

Train Race

Make train cars out of boxes. Look at books for inspiration. Put babies in and have adults push. It's a race to the finish. This is an absolute blast.

Train Toss

Make a train out of shoe boxes. Make tracks with black tape. Have babies toss bean bags in them. Remember to clap and have fun. Give prizes along the way.

Food and Drink Ideas

Cupcakes are so much easier for babies to handle. Frost them in white and put red and blue sprinkles on top.

Or make this adorable Train Cake.

Train Cake Pan

Serve finger foods so parents can eat with one hand.

  • Fruit tray
  • Cheese and crackers
  • Vegetable tray
  • Freshly pureed baby foods for babies
  • Sugar cookies in train shapes

Buy cute little cups with lids on them. You can put their name's on them for easy identification.

  • Fruit juice watered down
  • Milk
  • Iced Green Tea for adults
  • Fresh squeezed lemonade for adults

Choo-Choo Train Party Favors

Place train stickers on red or blue bags. Fill with a book about trains, teething biscuits, small container filled with O's cereal, train stickers. Anything your baby likes.

Always, always, always include a thank you note inside favor bag.
