Christmas Party Ideas
Hosting a Christmas Party can be a lot of fun. You just need to be prepared. First thing to do is choose a theme. I'm sure you're saying to yourself, why a theme?
Isn't Christmas just about Jesus or Santa? Well, yes and no. We all know it's celebrating Christ's birth. And most of us throw Santa in the mix. But you really do need a direction in your decorating.
Christmas Party Themes
Winter Wonderland
Your colors will be white, silver, and ice blue. Think elegance. Invitations can be a white card with a silver snowflake on the front.
All the beautiful snowflake decorations, invites, centerpieces, partyware, and more for this theme can be found here.
Spray paint tree branches white. Wind twinkle lights around them. Put them in pots with concrete or rocks to hold them steady. Place them around the party area.
Hang snowflakes from the ceiling. White tablecloths. Wind crystal garlands and silver ribbon down and around the chandelier. For the centerpiece, place 3 white candles tied together with a silver ribbon, in the middle of the table on a crystal cake plate.
Scatter white rose petals and silver glitter on table. Purchase as many white roses as you can afford. You could also use silk flowers. Place them in crystal or silver vases. White pearl garlands are great to lay here and there.
Have silver or crystal candle holders with white candles. You can also use glass Christmas figurines.
Fake snow is great to lay in and among your decorations. Lay it down first, them layer on the pearls, glitter, snowflakes, and figurines.
Tie a length of white tulle on the backs of chairs. On the bow(make it pretty big)hot glue white roses and a snowflake ornament.
For your party favors, give beautiful silver or white snowflake ornaments with a thank you tag attached. You could also give silver gift bags with a snowflake on the front. Fill with winter goodies...mittens, gloves, hats, scarves, homemade cookies, Christmas candles, Christmas potpourri, ect.
CandyLand
This one is sweet for a kids Christmas party. Invitations can be a candy cane, with a tag attached. Or make a candy cane card out of card stock paper. Write your party info on the back. Line your driveway with light up candy canes. Your colors are going to be red and white. White tablecloths.
For your centerpiece, make or purchase a gingerbread house. Place fake snow (can use cotton batting) around it. Scatter candy in and around. Have red and white candles burning.
Purchase candy garland and intertwine it in the chandelier. Hang candy from the chandelier as well.
Place large candy canes in pots around the room.
Balloons would be a great choice for this theme. Red and white.
You can use red plates and cups. Or take a look at these great red and white striped ones, they would be great too.
Country Christmas
Invitations can be a card with a pinecone, moose ,or a bear on it.
Your colors will be muted red, green, and brown. Plaids and pinecones are a staple of the Country theme.
I incorporate moose and bears. You can get stuffed ones at thrift stores for pretty cheap.
For your centerpiece, place a small Christmas tree with pinecones on it in the middle. Scatter pinecones around it. Place moose figurines and candles here and there.
Red berry garland is great for draping places. You can also use pine garland.
For favors, purchase small brown bags and fill with Christmas goodies. Fold over the top and punch 2 holes. Tie a plaid ribbon in a bow. You could also buy Christmas mugs and put a package of hot chocolate in it.
Wrap the whole thing in cellophane or tulle and tie a ribbon or raffia in a bow.
Here's some perfect Christmas partyware for this theme.
Santa Theme
This Christmas theme is very easy to do. Just use Santa everywhere. Here are some really adorable vintage looking Santa plates and cups. Or for a more modern look, take a look at these Santa plates.
Make sure you use Santa invites, centerpieces, and favors as well as decorations.
Angel Theme
Another great theme for your next Christmas party. Angels are a very popular choice for Christmas decorating. Stick with 2 or 3 colors and build around them. My favorite color combos when doing the angel theme are...
- White and silver
- Pink, cream, and gold
- Icy blue, and silver
- Cream and gold
Make or purchase angel invitations. Hang angels from the ceiling with fishing wire. Keep everything light and airy. For your centerpiece, I would lay down fake snow or white tulle and place a large angel in the middle. Use lots of candles for this theme to create a soft glow.
For a heavenly feel use white or cream columns. Wrap tulle and twinkle lights around them. Place gorgeous white rose bouquets on top with greenery flowing down from them.
If you're using a color scheme with gold in it, these gold glitter plates would be perfect.
For your favors, give anything with an angel theme. Ornaments, small gift bags filled with Christmas goodies, or angel candles.
Toyland Theme
This is another really fantastic idea for a party. You'll want to use toy invitations. Buy cheap toys at your local thrift stores for decorating with. You can always spray paint them to make them look newer. For the stuffed
animals, I always wash them and put fresh bows on them.
This would be a great vintage theme. Visit antique stores and flea markets for vintage toys. This theme is great for kids, but would be awesome for adults as well.
A great favor for this theme would be a candy bar wrapped favor. Make a homemade one and embellish with toy stickers.
Some other Christmas themes are...

- Jesus
- Penguins
- Poinsettias
- Snowflakes
- Christmas Trees
- Ornaments
- Gingerbread Men
