Roy's Farm Birthday Party

So you think that adults can't have fun at a farm birthday party? Not so....we all had a blast. The birthday boy (who turned 67) loved all the farm related stuff we had planned for him.

The best advice for party planning, go with a theme that the guest of honor loves and you're guaranteed to have a mind blowing party. This farm birthday party is sure to be a hit for any age from 1 to 99.

My Mom and I planned this little shindig to celebrate the most wonderful Dad and husband on the planet. He's always giving and giving, so we thought we would give a little back.

Invitation was by phone, as it was only very close friends and family. (It was kind of a last minute thing) Although any farm birthday party invitations would have worked just fine.

For the farm party decorations we kept it simple yet effective. Sunflowers in a mason jar, a few candles, a rooster with a cowboy hat on, Cowboy Party Supplies , and the awesome farm cake. We really didn't want to spend too much money, so we kept it simple.

As the guests arrived, we gave them a sheriff badge. Some of them really didn't know what to think about that. We were going to do the game where you can't say a certain word or you get your badge taken away, but for the life of us, we couldn't come up with a theme related word at all. So everyone just wore their badges and really got a kick out of it.

As we were looking for farm animals for the farm cake, we came across this adorable game. Moo-Bowling. It was 6 pins that looked like old-fashioned milk jars and a "cow" ball. So cute! We had to have it. We sat it on the table as it really fit the whole theme we were going for. Farm, cowboy, and cows. I set it up for the men to play and you'd have thought they were 2 years old. As you rolled the ball it would moo. Dad got the best score of all and wanted everyone to know about it! I asked him later what his favorite part of the farm birthday party was and he said, "The bowling part." How funny. You just never know what will stick in people's minds. I love to create memories. That's what life is all about.

After the Moo-Bowling, we decide the next thing to do was to open presents. Before Dad opened his presents, he gave a beautiful birthday speech about friends. It really was touching. He always told me growing up that you're lucky in life if you have 5 real friends. There were more than 5 people there, so he is really lucky. We don't express our love for our friends and family enough, so it was a real treat for everyone to hear how special they were to him.

Here's a picture of the birthday cowboy. He looks a little sad. But I think he was just posing, as he loves to do. Maybe this was the dignified pose. Ha ha! He's a hoot all right. I sure do love my Daddy! He truly is the best.

Next came the farm birthday party cake. We really didn't want to cut it (although it was yummy homemade carrot cake with homemade cream cheese frosting) because it was so cute. Everyone said it was the cutest cake they had ever seen. Mom had the idea and I executed it. What fun it was to make and so very simple.

Dad has been wanting a windmill and a dozer, so we gave him both for his birthday. (On the cake!)

You'll find complete instructions of how to make this completely unique farm cake here. You'll need some farm equipment, a dozer, and some cows to put on the top. I don't think some of the guests knew what to think about the cow piles. And the large pile of cow manure (chocolate icing) was left untouched. I guess just the thought of it being cow manure was enough to squelch any hunger pains. The rest of the cake was eaten lickity-split. It was so moist and yummy.

All in all the farm birthday party was a huge success. How do I know? Well, because Dad had fun. That's all that mattered. He felt special and loved. Thanks to all who came and made it so much fun.
