Garden Party Ideas

tea party and gifts

A Garden Party theme can be used for a birthday, an anniversary, a bridal shower, a baby shower, or just as a get together for your girl friends.

This party theme is beautiful outside, but can be done inside as well. You could also do a Garden Tea Party. Decide if you want to do it dressy or casual. I'll give you ideas for both.

Invitations

Purchase pretty note cards with flowers on the front. Print your info with elegant font inside. Place pressed flowers inside as well.

For an elegant party,do roses. For a casual party, do daisies or sunflowers.

Place a flower sticker on the back.

Decorations

rose Your colors will vary, depending on what flowers you are using. Keep your colors to 2 or 3 at the most.

Elegant Garden Party

Some great color combos are...pink and green, lilac and green, and lavender and yellow.

Use roses. You'll want them everywhere. Silk or real. You can find some silk ones that are just beautiful.

You can purchase cream tablecloths, or use sheets. Gather at the edges and put large bows made out of tulle. Hot glue silk flowers in the center of the bow.

Drape the chairs with cream sheets as well. Place the bow on the back.

If you have a chandelier over your table...wind rose flower garlands and pearl garlands down and around. Drape silky ribbon down and around as well. Place sheer butterflies here and there.

If you don't have a chandelier...make flower balls. Hot glue flowers around 3 large Styrofoam balls(about the size of a basketball). Hot glue some leaves on it as well.

Fold a length of ribbon in half. Hot glue on the top. Make a bow with some more ribbon and hot glue on top of that. Make them 3 different lengths. Hang over table.

You can also take all the wiring out of an old chandelier. Spray paint cream, sand a little on edges. Place candles in the holders. Decorate like you would a regular chandelier.

If your party is outside, you can hang the flower balls or the candlelier from a tree branch. Place your table under it.

For the centerpieces, place a crystal vase of flowers in the center. Scatter rose petals around that. Group silver candle holders with coordinating candles here and there. Lay flower garlands and pearl garlands in and around.

daisy Casual Garden Party

You can use alot of the same ideas as above, but use sunflowers or daisies instead of roses. Some great color combos are... yellow and black, white and yellow, and orange and yellow.

For the centerpieces, place silk flowers in terracotta pots. Hot glue a kabob stick on the back of a seed packet, place in pot as well. Hot glue a fake butterfly on a flower. Lay gardening gloves and pretty tools here and there. Sprinkle flowers around.

Decorate straw hats with flowers and ribbon or raffia. Place on the corner of chairs. You can also put them on the tables as decor.

If you decorate the chandelier, omit the pearls. Add raffia instead.

You could also use pansies. Just coordinate the colors to go with them.

Activities

Decorate Hats

Purchase plain straw hats for everyone. Stores have them for about a dollar a piece at the end of summer. Think ahead and save yourself alot of money. Set out ribbon, flowers, raffia, butterflies, and feathers. Let the ladies decorate their own hat.

Potting Plants

Purchase a variety of plants, pots, and dirt. Provide pretty aprons and gloves. Let the ladies plant their own plant.

Guessing Game

Purchase a variety of plants and herbs. See who can name all of them.

Sandwich choices...

  • Cucumber
  • Tuna
  • Cream cheese and strawberry jam

  • Fruit tray

  • Peach tea
  • Raspberry tea

  • Fresh squeezed lemonade
  • Pink lemonade(add a few strawberries and put in blender)

Favors

You don't have to give a favor at an adult garden party, but it's nice.

If you decorate hats, they can take them home. If you do a tea party, you can give them a teacup. Fill with tea packets and wrap in tulle. Tie with ribbon.

You could also do a garden basket. Fill with garden tools, gloves, and seed packets. Tie a pretty ribbon on the handle.

Make sure you include a thank you note. It can be as simple as a tag hanging with the ribbon.
