Are you having a Luau Party? I've got some great ideas for you below. This is a great birthday theme.

It's very popular for retirement parties and anniversaries as well.

You'll just have to tweak them a bit to be more grown up.

Hawaiian Party Ideas-Invitations

There are so many things out there for luau parties. I'm sure you can find a great invitation ready made. Here are a few ideas if you want to be creative.

You can send a message in a bottle. Handwrite a note and put in a bottle. Put a little sand and some shells in it. Cork it and send out.

Cut out a palm tree out of colored paper. Glue on a sand colored card. Handwrite or print on computer inside...

You're invited to (your child's name)'s luau party. Come ready to hula, hula, hula...

Hawaiian Party Ideas-Costumes

You can supply the outfits, or request in the invitations that they wear luau party gear.

For girls, purchase grass skirts and coconut bikini tops. They can wear them over their own clothes.

For boys, purchase flowered shirts. Get them on sale at the end of summer.

Hawaiian Party Ideas-Decorations and Centerpieces

Tie balloons on the mailbox. Make a sign out of thick poster board. Draw a palm tree on it and write... Aloha! Hot glue a garden stake to the back. Stick in the ground so the guest can see it upon arrival. You can do as many as you like. Line the sidewalk with Tiki torches. Scatter tropical flowers up the walk.

Fill the yard with pink flamingos. Who cares what the neighbors think.

You can get blow up palm trees, fake, or real. Place one on each side of the door. Put twinkle lights in them. Place tropical potted plants around trees. You can rent plants.

Give each person a lei and a pair of sunglasses as they come in the door. If you're supplying the outfits, have a tropical screen put up where they can change.

Don't forget the entry. Make your parties great from the start. Have plants and trees fill up empty spaces. Turn on soothing luau music. Set the scene right off.

Decorations for a luau party are pretty easy. Your colors are going to be tropical colors. My favorite combo is... Green, melon, warm yellow, and turquoise.

Place trees and plants everywhere. It needs to feel full.

Use pineapples for your centerpiece. You can place a plant in the middle with the pineapples around that. Scatter shells and sunglasses on the table.

If the party is inside, have buckets of sand setting around with Tiki torches in them. If you're outside just stick them in the ground.

Hang lanterns from the trees.

If it's a birthday, you can have balloons as well. Just remember,they don't survive heat. If it's very hot, you'll just be wasting your money.

You can make a palm tree out of a carpet roll and fake leaves. Just glue jute on the roll and hot glue leaves coming out the top. It's really easy to do.

There is so much stuff out there for luau parties. Visit your local party store or look online.

For plates and cups, you can either purchase tropical stuff, or purchase the summer plastic wear at your local discount store. They always have great colors.

If you're a busy parent, you can order all your supplies at once. Whew. How easy is that?

Hula Hoop

Purchase hula hoops for everyone. See who can hula the longest. It's harder than you think.

Limbo

Use a broom handle or anything straight. Play some music and get the party going with this game. A party favorite!

Seaside Treasure

Before the party, place treasures in a pool filled with sand. You could use shells, faux pearl necklaces, coins, ect. Let the kids dig for treasure.

Cake

If it's for a girl, you could place tropical flowers on a plain cake.

For a boy, do cupcakes with a shell on top.

You could also make a cream colored cake. Sprinkle crushed vanilla wafers on top. Lay a sand bucket on it's side with sand toys and tropical flowers spilling out.

Another great cake idea is a Palm Tree cake. So easy to make with this pan.
