Monkey Birthday Party
The Monkey Birthday Party is a great theme for any age. I've included it here in my 1st birthday section and my kid birthday section as there are 2nd birthday party supplies as well.
You can also use the Curious George party supplies for an older child. Or use these ideas for any age. Just use plain partyware. Yellow, green, or brown.
Monkey Birthday Party Invitations
You can order your monkey invitations or try your hand at making your own.
I've made one to give you an idea of what you can do using scrapbook paper and supplies. Use your imagination to come up with a monkey invite that fits your party color scheme.
Cut out light olive green paper what ever size you want your invitation to be. Cut a darker olive green with decorative scissors a little smaller and glue onto the first piece.
Cut out your tree and the base of your monkey face from brown paper. The leaves are a kelly green. I just cut them free hand and cut slits in them. Place stickers along the side and glue your tree in place.
Place the base of your monkey face a little behind one of the trees. Cut an oval out of tan paper for the snout of the monkey. With black marker put two tiny slits for the nose holes and use a red marker for the smile. Glue on
eyes. Cut out the monkey ears from brown paper and add a little piece of tan paper in the middle. Add you info on the front or the back. You can also make this a fold invitation and write all of your party info inside.
If your child is turning two, your invite could say...
Monkey see, monkey do,
(Your child's name) is turning two.
Monkey's love to jump and run,
Come join us for some monkey fun!
Mix it the other way for a 1st birthday...
Come join us for some monkey fun,
(Your child's name) is turning one.
Monkey see, monkey do,
Monkeys like to party too!
Another great invitation idea is to dress your little one in a monkey costume and print out. Make a homemade invite with the picture on the front.
Or how about a banana invitation. It could say...Come go bananas with us at our Monkey birthday party...
Monkey Birthday Party Costumes
Dress your little one in a monkey or banana costume. The
Mod Monkey T-Shirt (Size 3T)
would be an adorable way to bring in the monkey theme without a huge expense. You could supply the guests with monkey ears and monkey tails. Make the ears out of craft foam and headbands.
Monkey Birthday Party Decorations
For your monkey birthday party supplies, the
Mod Monkey 1st Deluxe Pack for 16
and
Mod Monkey 2nd Basic Pack
are really cute and modern. Curious George is cute as well.
Tie balloons onto the mailbox to alert your guests as to where the party is. You can make monkey signs (use coloring books for inspiration) and hot glue a garden stake to the back. Stick in the ground in the front yard or leading to the party.
The signs could say things like...monkey crossing...monkeys on the loose...let's go bananas. To start the jungle feeling off right away, place a large homemade banana tree (see below) and monkey on the front porch to greet your guest as they are arriving.
Start your indoor monkey birthday party decor off with a
Mod Monkey Personalized Birthday Banner
. Hang it over the party table. The colors for this (if you are using the Mod Monkey party supplies) party are turquoise, yellow, and brown. And of course you
will want to add green to that. Can't do a jungle theme with out the green. If you are doing a more traditional monkey party, just pull the colors from your party supplies.
Group balloons in 3's and place them around the party area. Use plants, trees, and flowers to create a "jungle" feel. Hang greenery draping from the ceiling, over doorways, on tabletops, and chairs.
You can twist streamers together tightly to resemble vines. Use brown or green. Hang monkeys all over the place. You can use the blow up kind, or stuffed.
For your centerpiece, place a tropical plant or flower in the middle of the table and place a color coordinated bow in the front. Sit a monkey leaning up against it. Place bunches of bananas on the table as well.
You can use the tablecloth that comes with your party supplies or purchase burlap. It's really cheap and very cool for a jungle feel.
Have a cd of jungle sounds playing in the background. A fog machine is cool for achieving the jungle vibe.
You can make your own banana trees. Use the cardboard roll that carpet comes on. Wrap and glue rope all the way up the "trunk". Purchase banana leaves and hot glue them coming out of the top. This is really effective.
If the parents are staying, be sure and set up an area for them as well. Decorate it just like you do the party area. Serve coffee and cookies.

Monkey Birthday Party Games and Activites
As your little guests arrive, have a craft area set up with coloring pages or a special craft. This keeps the little ones busy until all of the guests arrive.
"Mod Monkey 21"" Pull-String Pinata"

Pinatas are always fun for any party and the pull string pinata makes it so much safer than your traditional pinata.
Monkey Bracelet Craft
This is for children that are older. Only you will know if your daughter is ready for this craft. Babies will only put the beads in their mouths. (The little monkeys!) Purchase turquoise, yellow, brown beads, leaf beads, banana charms, and monkey charms. Let the kids make their own bracelet.
Banana Bean Bag Toss
Make or purchase banana bean bags. Paint a monkey face on a piece of plywood. You can use an over head projector if you're not an artist. Cut a hole where the monkey mouth. Have the kids toss the bean bags in the hole. This is great for any age. 1 to 101.
Banana Hunt
Before the party, hide bananas all over the party area or yard. Let the kids hunt for bananas. Give prizes to the player who finds the most.
Pin the Tail on the Monkey
Use a large piece of poster board and paint or draw a monkey on it. Play just as you would Pin the Tail on the Donkey.
Monkey Face
Paint each child with a monkey face. Look at images in books or online for inspiration.
Barrel of Monkeys
Purchase plenty of Barrel of Monkeys games. Have a contest to see who can loop the most monkeys.
Monkey Birthday Party Cake
Monkey cupcakes are so cute and so easy. They are the perfect choice for this monkey birthday party theme. You can also do this same design on a round cake.
I used a yummy banana cake recipe and homemade buttercream frosting.
I tinted the frosting brown and used tan colored fondant for the monkey snout and ears. They really were easy to make.
You can get the full instructions here.
Or check out this super cute monkey cake pan.
Monkey Birthday Party Food and Drinks
Serve all of your food in rattan baskets. Have monkeys and bananas sitting in and amongst the food. Use large banana leaves to lay on cake plates and place food on top of that.
Plastic Monkey Head-Shaped Cups With Straws are a really cute and simple way to serve drinks. They can be gifts for the guests to take home as well.
Here are a few suggestion. You know what would be best for your party, so just pick and choose what works for you and your schedule. You'll find recipes below.

Banana Pop
Peel the banana. Cut in half and slide a wooden stick in the flat end. Dip the banana in dipping chocolate and crushed nuts. Let sit in the fridge until set. These are so yummy and if you use organic chocolate, you've got a pretty healthy snack!
Banana Smoothie
You'll need yogurt, bananas, and honey. Or use ice cream for banana milk shakes. Yum. Just place in your blender and blend. So easy.
Monkey Chow
Mix nuts, shredded coconut, raisins, dried banana chips, and chocolate chips.
Monkey Bread
You'll need, 4 c. biscuits, 3/4 cup sugar, 1 tsp. cinnamon, 1 cup chopped pecans. Mix sugar, cinnamon, and pecans together. Cut the biscuits in quarters
and roll in sugar mixture. Place in greased bundt pan. GLAZE: 1 cup sugar, 3/4 cup butter, and 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon. Bring ingredients to a boil. Pour over biscuits and
bake about 20 minutes or until golden brown in a 350 degree oven. Remove from pan, invert onto plate and serve warm.
Jungle Juice
Make your favorite punch recipe and add green food coloring.

It will depend on the age of your guests as to what would be a good idea for favors. For little ones, make sure everything is age appropiate.
