Retro Party Ideas

The Retro Party theme is great fun. I'll focus on the 70's, but you can do the 50's(very popular), or any era. The 70's is so fun and funky, it's sure to please.

You can do this theme for a birthday, or just for fun.

Invitations

Take a picture of your teen in a rainbow colored wig and 70's attire. Glue to the front of a card. Write inside...

(Your teen's name)is having a funky fun Retro Party. Come dressed in your best 70's attire. Prizes will be given to the best(or should I say worst)dressed.

Party Costumes

Have everyone come in 70's attire. Bell bottoms, vests with fringe, platform shoes, ect.

Entrance Decor

Tie balloons on the mailbox. Make rainbows out of thick poster board. Hot glue a garden stake on the back. Stick them along the sidewalk.

Make a banner that says welcome to the 70's over the door. Play 70's music.

Decorations

Your colors are going to be rainbow colors(red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple). Have balloons in every color of the rainbow. Group them in 3's. Make a balloon weight with a balloon and some sand. Fill balloon with about 1/4 cup of sand and tie.

Place lava lamps around the room. Hang up disco balls. Have a TV set up with the Brady Bunch playing.

Wind all colors of curly ribbon around the chandelier. Let it cascade down.

Hang posters of 70's movie stars on the walls.

For your table centerpiece, place a lava lamp in the middle. Scatter rainbow confetti. Have colorful round sunglasses laying here and there.

You can purchase 70's party plates and cups, or just use a plain color that's listed above.

70's Trivia

See who can answer the most trivia questions about the 70's.

Disco Dance

Turn on the 70's music and have a dancing contest. Give out prizes for the best and the worst.

Retro Relay

This is great fun if you can get your teenager to play. Some of them might be too cool.

Have a trunk full of 70's shoes, clothes, hats, and wigs. Split them into two teams. They have to race to the trunk, put on clothes, race back, take off clothes. Next person goes and so on.

Food and Drinks

Cake

Make a rainbow cake. Cut it out of a sheet cake and frost.

Food

Fondue was big in the 70's
Cut up french bread and dip into cheese
Cut up fresh fruit and dip into chocolate
Layer meat, cheese, and an olive on a toothpick

Drinks

Serve drinks in rainbow light up cups.

Punch was popular then, but most of the brands have so much junk in them. Make your own. 6 ounce can frozen fruit concentrate and 18 to 24 ounces of naturally carbonated water. This is a little better.
