Toddler Birthday Party Games

Toddler birthday party games should not be complicated.

I've got some simple and easy birthday party games for toddlers that you are sure to love.

Keeping a passle of 2 or 3 year olds happy is not an easy task, but it can be done. Toddlers love to count, imitate, and dance around, so incorporate these things in your toddler party games and you're sure to succeed.

Just go with the flow and be flexible. Most toddler birthday parties are usually only 2 or 3 little ones (for sanity sake).

If you have any more than that, then ask for help! Ask other parents to stay, or hire a few teenage girls to help out.

Fishing For Goodies

You'll need to construct a 3 sided structure out of card board. It needs to be tall enough that someone can be behind it. Decorate it to match your party theme using paint, markers, or sticker. Make fishing poles out of sticks and tie a piece of yarn to the end. Tie a clothespin to the end of the yarn. The kids cast their line into the "pond" and the person who is behind the card board places a piece of candy or a small toy on the clothespin.

Sand Pool

Fill a small kid swimming pool with clean sand. Let the kids dig for "treasure" in the sand. The "treasure" can be any medium sized toy that matches your kid party theme.

Cupcake Walk

Toddler birthday party games can be a spin off of traditional party games. Did you ever play the Cake Walk at your school carnival? This is a whole lot like that. You need to make pictures of different kinds and colors of cupcakes. Make smaller versions to place in a basket. Put the pictures of cupcakes in a circle. Have the kids stand on a cupcake and start the kid party music. The kids must walk around the circle and stop when the music stops. Draw a cupcake out of the basket. The player who is standing on that color of cupcake is the winner. Give them a....you guessed it...a cupcake! That player must now stand out of the game. Keep playing until everyone wins a cupcake.

Dance Fever

What does a 2 year old love to do? Move! So get the party moving and a shaking with some lively kid birthday music and let them dance. This is a lot of fun.

Bubble Fun

Rent or purchase a bubble machine. Turn it on and enjoy watching the little ones go nuts. You can also have the parents blow bubbles for the kids. Have the kids pop the bubbles for more fun.

Homemade Playdough

Make this homemade playdough recipe and let the kids make their own masterpieces. This birthday party game idea is perfect for this age group.

Fantastic Finger Paint

Spread a long sheet of white paper on the floor or table. Put all the kids in an apron and let them fingerpaint. Here's a great homemade fingerpaint recipe.

Treasure Hunt

Toddler birthday party games can be as simple as a fun treasure hunt. Hide fun toys around the party area and let the kids hunt for them. You can hide things that match your party theme. Like little stuffed monkeys for a Monkey Birthday Party theme.

Bean Bag Toss

I included this game on this page as well as my 1st birthday party page because it's so fun and so simple. You really can't get much easier than a toss game. You can make the bean bags to match your party or just have little pillow squares. Homemade beanbags are really simple. Just sew up little square pillows and fill with beans or rice. To add to your party theme you can make the beanbags into a shape like bugs, stars, crowns, cupcakes, ect. Then you need something that the babies can toss the beanbags into or on. You can make a face with the mouth open, a bucket works great, or just have them toss onto a large poster board with different prizes painted on it. When they land on a certain painted prize, then they get that real prize.

Pull String Pinatas

Pull string pinatas are perfect for toddler birthday party games. There is no bat flying around in a 2 year old's hand. Thank goodness. That is the best part, it's simple and easy, and SAFE!
