Valentine Party Ideas

valentine party

Cupid is on the move. A Valentine party is a wonderful way to express your love to your family and friends. Oh yes, and your lover.

I just love all the pink and red and roses. I love roses!

I know so many people say it's commercial, but I think you can make it meaningful. Some of us need a little nudge every now and then. And if you love to decorate like me, then the different seasons and holidays give you the perfect excuse to decorate to your hearts content.

The weather is so dreary in February, so why not liven it up with a Valentine's Day Party. You'll find plenty of ideas here for decor, centerpieces, invitations, favors, and food. Have fun and spread the love.

Valentine Party Invitations

You could purchase vintage Cupid note cards. They don't really have to be vintage, just look like it. Write your info on the inside and embellish with heart and rose stickers. Seal the envelope with a rose or heart sticker. You can also put tiny pressed flowers or heart confetti inside your invitation.

Homemade Valentine cards are fun as well. Use scrapbook paper and supplies and do some old fashioned cutting and glueing. Here's some ideas for homemade cards that you can tweak to be Valentine friendly.

Here are some fresh clean modern Valentine Invitations for you to choose from.

Valentine Party Decorations

Your colors for a Valentine Party are going to be pink, red, white, and gold. Your accent color could also be silver. So pretty. Anything in these colors will work. It doesn't have to be "Valentine Decor". Think outside the box. Don't just look in the Valentine section of the store.

Tulle is really fun to use because it's so cheap. It's about $1.00 a yard, and you can get it in so many colors. It makes decorating a snap.

Centerpieces are a very important part of any party. Here are a few ideas for Valentine centerpieces.

Candle and Wreath

Lay a fresh green wreath in the middle of the table. Put a hurricane globe in the middle of the wreath. Place a red or pink candle in the middle of the hurricane glass. Embellish with red, pink, silver, or gold wired ribbon bows if desired.

Really Sweet Idea

Fill large jars with lids with Valentine candy. Any red or pink candy will do. Cookies would work as well.

Pretty Candy

Wrap Styrofoam balls in colored cellophane. Wrap each end with a ribbon. Lay the "candy" in the middle of the table.

Tiers of Decor

Use crystal candlesticks and plates to make a tiered centerpiece. Start with a candlestick and add a plate on top of that. Add another candlestick and add a smaller plate on top of that. Add another candlestick and then add a smaller plate. Fill the plate with ornaments, greenery, Valentine cupcakes, small presents, or flowers.

Bejeweled Beauty

Fill a bowl with clear faux gems. Place pillar candles in the gems. Hang crystal garland dripping off the sides. Place the bowl on a crystal pedestal cake plate.

Floating Flowers

Fill a tall cylinder with ivy and flowers. Fill all the way up with water to about 2 inches from the top. Gorgeous. You can also float flowers on top of water. Cut the stems off and place in a bowl of fresh water.

For some added drama to the party, drape material or white sheets over the chairs. Wrap a piece of tulle around the top part and tie in a big bow. Hot glue roses and ribbon on top of the bow. You can also just do the tulle if you don't want to go to the trouble of the sheets.

Have candles burning everywhere. Borrow or rent white pillars. Place them around the room. Fill the room with fake trees and fill with twinkle lights and pink and red ribbon.

Remember to keep everything very tasteful and elegant. Even if it's a kid's Valentine Party, you can still have the "wow" factor.

Some really great kid friendly ideas for Valentine's parties include balloons and construction paper hearts. Group the balloons in 3's and tie pretty ribbons on them. Tie a weight on the ends of the ribbons and place in a small gift bag.

Cut out construction paper hearts and hang from the ceiling or stick on the walls with poster putty.

For your plates and cups, you can use gold, silver, red, or pink. Rose plates and cups are a great choice. Or use these super cute heart party supplies. Adorable!

Valentine Party Games and Activities

Valentine Bingo

Play Bingo using Sweetheart candy.

Sweetheart Candy Guessing Game

Fill a pretty glass jar with Sweetheart candy. Let guests write their guess on a small piece of paper and put in a basket. The closest guess wins.

Sweetheart Do You Love Me

Players form a circle with one player in the middle. The person who is "it" goes to someone in the circle and asks,"Sweetheart do you love me?" That person answers, "Sweetheart, I love you but I just can't smile." If he/she does smile or laugh, he/she becomes"it" and the previous player joins the circle. The person who is "it" cannot touch the other players, but may make as many funny faces as he/she wishes.

Pinata

Purchase a rose or heart pinata and let guest take swings at it with a bat. Please be cautious.

Who Am I

Tape a piece of paper on the backs of your guests with the name of a romantic character. They must figure out who they are by asking questions of the other guests. They can only be yes or no answers. Some questions to start out with... Am I male? Am I dead? ect...

Valentine Party Food and Drinks

Cake

Make heart shaped cakes and place on cake plates at different levels. To make heart cakes, bake a square cake and a round cake. Cut the round cake in half. Place the square cake at a diagonal on the cake plate. Place the two round halves on each side of the square cake. Frost in pink or white. Wind rose garland in and out of plates.

There's a great cake pan that's a rose. Make angelfood cake and drizzle strawberries over the top.

Food

Just serve finger foods at a Valentine Party. It's much easier. Some great choices are...

  • Heart shaped cookies
  • Chocolate dipped strawberries
  • Strawberry jam and cream cheese sandwiches cut into heart shapes
  • Organic chocolates
  • Pretzels dipped in white chocolate

Drinks

  • Love Potion (pink lemonade)
  • Pink Punch

2 unsweetened pink lemonade Kool Aid pkgs.
2 c. sugar
1 (6 oz.) frozen pink lemonade
3 c. pineapple juice
1/2 c. maraschino cherry syrup
2 1/2 qt. (10 c.) water
1/2 of 2-liter Sprite
Mix everything but the Sprite. Place in punch bowl and add Sprite slowly.
